SEPG Conference 1/2 Day Tutorial
A
Practical Guide to Solving Typical CMMI Implementation Problems
Keywords: Performance,
Process Improvement, CMMI
Topic: CMMI
- Adopting CMMI
Target Audience:
Getting Started
Abstract:
Despite an increasing
body of knowledge on how to successfully manage and improve processes
using CMMI to deliver real business benefit, many organisations
are still struggling in practice. Increasing and shifting demands
on resources/cost, time and quality create challenges requiring
agility and effective change.
To help address this
challenge, the presenters will identify common issues/problems
associated with process improvement and then present proven solution
strategies.
Problems addressed
in this tutorial include:
- lack of management commitment
- lack of prioritised business
goals and development problems to focus improvements
- excessive emphasis on documenting
and assessing processes
- difficulties in process definition
and speed of deployment
- inadequate buy-in from staff
- inadequate process architecture
- difficulty integrating multiple
models/standards into one improvement program
Based on 25 years
of combined process experiences we have found some specific solutions
to be highly practical and effective. Through exercises, participants
will learn how to:
- develop goal/problem trees
linking business to process improvement goals
- perform '80/20 rule' gap
analysis
- prioritize improvements for
early and iterative deployment
- define lightweight processes
rapidly in a workshop setting
Information on
how to get a comprehensive 'how to' guide, including an example
process architecture will also be provided.
